The choosing of a name for a child was vitally important, as it is today. Often, children’s names incorporated some part of the family’s religious deities’ name. For example, some Assyrians worshipped Sin (yes, that was the name of a god, no pun intended). An Assyrian king was named Sennacherib. (note the ‘sin’ and ‘senn’).
